Guided E-Bike Tour — Southwest Harbor & Quiet Side

The Quiet Side, Up Close

This tour follows the quiet southwestern coast of Mount Desert Island on roads most visitors never find. From our Southwest Harbor store, your guide leads a small group along Route 102A past the Seawall — a mile-long barrier of wave-rounded granite cobblestones where the ocean meets old-growth spruce forest — and on to the Wonderland Trail, where you park the bikes and walk through coastal forest to the rocky shore.

About This Experience

This tour follows the quiet southwestern coast of Mount Desert Island on roads most visitors never find. From our Southwest Harbor store, your guide leads a small group along Route 102A past the Seawall — a mile-long barrier of wave-rounded granite cobblestones where the ocean meets old-growth spruce forest — and on to the Wonderland Trail, where you park the bikes and walk through coastal forest to the rocky shore.

The hike at Wonderland is easy and unhurried — a mile and a half through spruce and birch to a granite headland where tide pools, crashing surf, and open ocean views reward the short walk. From there, you ride to Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, perched on a cliff where the Atlantic meets the spruce. Your guide knows the spot the tour buses miss.

The ride finishes the way a quiet-side afternoon should: rolling into Bass Harbor village and pulling up to Thurston’s Lobster Pound on the working wharf. Lunch is on your own, but the lobster is coming off the boats tied up beside your table. From Thurston’s, it’s a short ride back to Southwest Harbor — mostly downhill, mostly smiling.

What Makes It Special

01

Small Groups, Real Stories

Maximum eight riders per tour. Your guide adapts the narrative to what you’re curious about — geology, wildlife, local history, or all of it.

02

Wonderland Trail

Park the bikes and hike a mile through coastal forest to a granite headland. Tide pools, crashing surf, and the kind of quiet you came to Maine to find.

03

Bass Harbor Head Light

One of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, perched on a cliff at the southern tip of the island. Your guide knows the angle the crowds miss.

04

No Experience Needed

Every tour starts with a full e-bike lesson. The Bosch motor does the climbing. You bring the curiosity.
